Appointment of Kristy Klein Davis to the Comprehensive Health Coverage Commission

ATLANTA, GEORGIA, June 28, 2024—Georgia Health Initiative is pleased to announce the appointment of our President and CEO, Kristy Klein Davis, as a member of Georgia’s newly created Comprehensive Health Coverage Commission. Enacted through legislation that was signed into law by Governor Kemp, this Commission will play a pivotal role in advising the Governor, General Assembly, and the Department of Community Health on issues related to access and quality of healthcare for Georgia’s low-income and uninsured populations.

“It is such a privilege to be appointed to this Commission,” said Kristy Klein Davis. “In leading an organization committed to helping all Georgians achieve their fullest potential for health, I look forward to working alongside other leaders from across sectors to uncover opportunities for a healthier state.”

Over the next year and a half, the Commission is charged with assessing and reviewing opportunities to improve reimbursement and funding for Georgia’s healthcare workforce, improve the quality of healthcare for uninsured and lower-income populations, and enhance service delivery and coordination of healthcare throughout the state. The Commission has been tasked with issuing reports to document its findings twice each year, the first of which is slated for December 1, 2024.

Klein Davis continued, “It is not lost on me how important this work is. I applaud the Speaker and other members of the Georgia General Assembly, the Office of the Governor, and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor for recognizing the need to craft Georgia-specific solutions to improve access to affordable, high-quality health care. By establishing this Commission, our state leaders have signaled that maintaining the status quo of more than one million uninsured Georgians is unacceptable in a state that continues to grow and gain national recognition as a promising hub for business and industry.”

In recognizing Klein Davis’s appointment, Georgia Health Initiative’s Board Chair, Dr. Nicola Dawkins-Lyn, stated, “At the Initiative, we see ourselves as ‘partners in possibility.’ We know Georgia is brimming with possibility and that, to realize our full potential, we need to ensure the health and wellbeing of all 11 million of our neighbors. We’re proud that the Initiative will be represented on the Commission and know that Kristy will contribute her expertise, commitment, and compassion to work for the good of all Georgians.”
