Joann Yoon Kang Joins as Vice President of Strategic Communications
Georgia Health Initiative today announced Joann Yoon Kang as its new Vice President of Strategic Communications, effective February 28, 2024. Kang brings more than 20 years of professional experience in health policy and advocacy in Georgia as well as at the national level. In her new role, she will develop and manage the Initiative’s brand and voice, provide leadership for all internal and external communications efforts, and integrate communication strategies into all programmatic work. “Now is a particularly exciting time to join Georgia Health Initiative,” said Kang. “Communications plays such a critical role in education and in engaging partner entities and community members in effecting change. I look forward to contributing my skills and experience to our team as we work toward improved health and wellbeing for all who call Georgia home.”
Kang has spent nearly her entire career in health policy and advocacy. Initially practicing as a public interest lawyer, she moved to policy positions with Voices for Georgia’s Children. She then spent a decade at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, leading teams in health systems and data visualization as well as policy and partnerships, working to address some of the nation’s most pressing public health issues. Most recently, she served as Program Director at The Rippel Foundation, providing leadership and strategic oversight to the Foundation’s program work, and furthering its vision of a cohesive system of health that is thriving, equitable, and sustainable.
“Joann’s holistic approach to communications will be key to further developing the Initiative’s voice and ensuring that we are supporting and amplifying all the good work going on in Georgia today,” said Kristy Klein Davis, President and CEO of Georgia Health Initiative. “Her systems and program experience coupled with her commitment to partnership enable her to identify new opportunities for using communications as a tool in the Initiative’s work. I’m looking forward to her strategic and collaborative leadership.”
